‘Sorry’ - Newcastle United owner releases statement after ‘eventful’ summer and Liverpool saga

Newcastle United get their Premier League campaign underway at Aston Villa today after a turbulent pre-season.

Jamie Reuben has thanked Newcastle United supporters while insisting “everyone worked tirelessly” to put the club in the best possible position for the upcoming season.

The Magpies kick off their Premier League campaign today following a turbulent summer. Despite looking for early breakthroughs in the transfer market, a string of top targets ultimately snubbed moves to St James’ Park.

To compound the misery, star striker Alexander Isak has gone AWOL as he aims to force an exit. Liverpool are waiting in the wings to strike a deal on Newcastle’s terms, having already seen a £110million bid rejected.

Eddie Howe faced Newcastle United press pack

Toon fans have, at times, vented their frustrations at the void of information from above. Eddie Howe has been left to face the music on his own to the media throughout the pre-season campaign.

“Ahead of a new Champions League season, I want to renew our thanks to our supporters for their unwavering commitment to @NUFC once again,” Reuben posted on X.

“Definitely an eventful summer and I am sorry I was not able to communicate directly more but everyone from ownership down was working tirelessly to ensure we have the best possible season ahead. Safe travels to Villa Park and Up The Mags.”

"Alex's situation has been unchanged for a while, and that will continue to be the case,” he told reporters. “I've had a great relationship with Alex. You need that with every player. I take my part in that relationship really importantly.

“I have to work really closely with the player to his benefit. There has been no change, all my focus has been on training and Villa and the transfer front."
