On Friday night, the Kansas City Chiefs suffered another hard-to-watch preseason road loss — this time a 33-16 defeat at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks.
Fortunately, these losses will have no bearing on the upcoming season. But injuries sustained in preseason games are another matter — and on Friday night, at least five Kansas City players were ruled out of the game:
* Cornerback Nazeeh Johnson (shoulder)
* Linebacker Jack Cochrane (knee)
* Cornerback Nohl Williams (concussion protocol)
* Safety Mike Edwards (hamstring)
* Defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah (hamstring)
The good news is that none of these players are starters. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, right tackle Jawaan Taylor, defensive tackle Chris Jones, linebackers Nick Bolton and Drue Tranquill and cornerback Trent McDuffie were among those who dressed in Seattle, but did not see the field. Neither did cornerback Kristian Fulton, who we had hoped to see in at least a limited role after his return from injury a week ago.
The four players held out of Wednesday’s final public practice of training camp —running back Kareem Hunt (quad), wide receiver Hollywood Brown (ankle), tight end Jake Briningstool (hamstring) and offensive lineman Ethan Driskell (appendectomy) — did not dress for the game.
