One of the many players Chelsea have parted ways with during the summer transfer window was involved in an entertaining Premier League curtain-raiser on Friday night.
While the Blues await the challenge of Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Liverpool got their title defence off to the best possible start with a 4-2 win over Bournemouth, for whom Djordje Petrovic was in goal.
The Serbian made the move from Chelsea for £25m, however has already run into a number of issues with his new team in his opening weeks there.
Petrovic was involved in a poor pre-season campaign in the United States, and certainly had fingers pointed at him for his performance against Arne Slot’s side.

Chelsea fans not impressed by Djordje Petrovic’s Premier League debut for Bournemouth
It was reported that there were doubts at Chelsea about Petrovic’s passing when they made their decision to sell, and a 63% passing accuracy suggested they were right with that verdict.
Chelsea fans were initially pretty chuffed with the fee they had received for the goalkeeper, and they took to social media to further imply that feeling from his first Premier League appearance for Bournemouth.
One user said: “Petrovic was a very good sell, seems the same keeper he was before loan to me.”

Another added: “Petrovic needs to do better and be ready because that defence will make his life a lot more difficult.”
A third user claimed: “Petrovic is genuinely one of the worst keepers in Chelsea history and they tried to say he should be starting for us.”
Another stated: “I swear the last 2 goals, Petrovic definitely should’ve done better. Very embarrassing at this level!!”
Finally, one user said: “Petrovic worse than I thought which is impressive.”

Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation for 2025/26
With Petrovic gone, Chelsea look set to go into the new season with Robert Sanchez as the number one for the second successive campaign.
This is despite links to Mike Maignan and Gianluigi Donnarumma, as well as many supporters previously calling for a new goalkeeper in recent times.
Filip Jorgensen is also at the club, and will again push for the number one spot at the club, while they will closely monitor the progress of Mike Penders on loan at Strasbourg.
Sanchez will be looking for his first clean sheet against Palace when he lines up on Sunday, whilst also trying to further enforce the point that the club made the right decision selecting him over Petrovic.
