NFL preseason roundup: Seattle Seahawks signal role for rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe

The Seattle Seahawks ran for 268 yards in the rain during a 33-16 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in an NFL preseason game on Friday night.

No player had more than 50 of the Seahawks’ rushing yards. Rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe had 18 yards on five rushing attempts. But it was the way he got the first 2 of those yards that drew notice in the one-sided game.

Milroe was the third Seattle quarterback to run the offense on Friday night, as starter Sam Darnold got his first preseason action and veteran backup Drew Lock followed him on the field.

But Milroe took the fourth snap of the game for the Seahawks. With Seattle facing a third-and-1 at its 41-yard line, Milroe replaced Darnold under center. The third-rounder from Alabama gained 2 yards on a quarterback sneak, before Darnold returned to complete the 10-play, 81-yard touchdown drive.

In Friday’s other preseason game, Tennessee stopped Atlanta on downs at the Titans 25- and 48-yard lines after taking a three-point lead with 9:03 to play to hold on for a 23-20 victory over the Falcons.

Tennessee opened the game with 2025 No. 1 draft pick Cam Ward at quarterback. In three series, Ward completed 2-of-7 passes for 42 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. He produced one first down on a 35-yard completion on the Titans’ second snap.
