West Ham are set to open their season with a trip to face Sunderland on Saturday.
The Hammers are preparing to line up in the Premier League against the newly promoted side on 16 August at the Stadium of Light.
A trip for West Ham to face Sunderland poses a potentially ideal opportunity for Graham Potter to start the campaign on a positive note.
Paul Merson has described this as a “nightmare game” for the Hammers, but now a fresh prediction has emerged from a supercomputer.

West Ham prediction emerges ahead of Sunderland clash
It is fair to say that the Black Cats represent an unpredictable opponent for the Irons after such a busy window and high spending under Regis Le Bris.
MORE WEST HAM STORIES
This has seen Sunderland have an up-and-down pre-season throughout the summer, something they will be keen on changing against Potter’s side.
The E20 club themselves could hand out a number of debuts with Callum Wilson, Kyle Walker-Peters, El Hadji Malick Diouf and Mads Hermansen all coming in.
As a result, the opening day clash in the north east will certainly be an interesting and difficult to predict due to the volume of change.
With that being said, the London Stadium faithful will be pleased to learn that the Opta supercomputer (15 August) has backed West Ham for three points.

The claret and blue outfit have been handed a 40.7 per cent chance of taking the win, compared to Sunderland’s 32.1 per cent probability.
This leaves the chances of a draw at 27.2 per cent, meaning that the East Londoners are clear favourites on their travels up north.

West Ham must start with win for Potter
Graham Potter has already learned that he’ll be without Crysencio Summerville for the clash against Sunderland, which is a blow.
But other than that, the Englishman has almost a full squad at his disposal, meaning there are no real excuses not to take three points away.
This is especially the case against a Mackems side, which is an in-progress jigsaw puzzle at the moment after so many new signings have come in.

It will certainly be an interesting opening day clash, but one Potter needs to be positive after a frustrating debut season in E20.
