Everton have made a surprise move in the transfer market as they pursue Wolves’ Tom King.
King joined the Molineux side in 2023, but has only featured once, late on in a 1-1 draw against Brentford in May 2025.
The fourth-choice goalkeeper had mainly played in the English lower tiers before his time in the West Midlands.
Therefore, it may seem a bit bizarre that Everton are pursuing King, with the two clubs said to be in advanced talks.
However, Wolves manager Vitor Pereira’s words may give the Hill Dickinson Stadium faithful more confidence that the move is a smart one.

Vitor Pereira: King is great at team talks
If all goes through, Everton are set to pay a nominal fee for King.
At Wolves, the goalkeeper’s participation on the pitch is no doubt limited, and this will likely continue at the Toffees.
Therefore, it is important that the goalkeeper is able to provide something else in and around the club.
Luckily, according to Pereira, the 30-year-old is capable of doing this, with his team talks being a particular highlight.
King broke former Everton star Asmir Begovic’s Guinness World record for the longest goal in January 2021 during a 1-1 draw with Cheltenham Town
The manager told the Express and Star on 26 April after Wolves’ 3-0 victory over Leicester: “Do you know who spoke with the players before the game today? King – and he spoke better than me, with passion.
“This is spirit, someone who hasn’t played a game, but he goes there and spoke to his team-mates with energy and with words that even I can’t find.”

King can add value to Everton’s squad
Coming in as a likely third-choice goalkeeper, King will add value to Everton’s squad.
Many experienced players left Everton this summer, including Abdoulaye Doucoure.
Therefore, King would add a voice of reason and experience in the changing rooms for a tiny fee.
Fans that are unsure about the transfer need to remember that it is highly unlikely that the Welsh international will ever play for the Toffees, especially in the Premier League.
Hopefully, Everton can get the signing done quickly, with the Merseyside club paying as little as possible for the goalkeeper.
