Some Villa supporters might already have been coming round to that conclusion, considering some of the club’s eye-watering ticket prices, with a seat in the middle of the Holte End for Saturday’s season opener setting you back a princely £77.
This week, meanwhile, delivered further disenchantment with the roll out of the Premier League’s new digital ticketing plan, which by the start of next season will require clubs to ensure a minimum of 70 per cent of home match tickets are issued electronically.
The remaining 30 per cent can be issued at the club’s discretion, allowing those supporters unable to use digital tickets access to the old-fashioned physical version.
Villa, it seems, have gone a year early and apparently with greater gusto than the league rules require.
