Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to kick off their 2025/26 Premier League campaign with a difficult home fixture against Manchester City at Molinuex on August 16. Under the guidance of Vítor Pereira, Wolves are looking to improve on their 16th-place finish last season and make a strong start to this season. Here is our Wolves predicted lineup.
Wolves Have A Tough Start To The Season As They Face Manchester City
How Wolves Have Lined Up Recently
In Pre-season, there has been a lot of rotation to the squad, but Pereira has favoured the 3-4-2-1 formation from last season, emphasising defensive solidity and quick transitions. New signing left wing-back David Møller Wolfe has made his debut in Wolves’ last pre-season game against Celta Vigo, and is expected to make his Premier League debut against Manchester City. The attacking trio of Jørgen Strand Larsen, Jhon Arias, and Fer López has shown promise, while midfielders João Gomes and André have provided energy and defensive cover in the middle of the park.

The back three has typically featured Matt Doherty, Emmanuel Agbadou, and Toti Gomes. With José Sá in goal. The left and right wing-back positions have been rotated heavily since the departure of both Rayan Aït-Nouri and Nélson Semedo. Ki-Jana Hoever has featured heavily, as well as Rodrigo Gomes and Hugo Bueno.
Wolves Recent Form And Tactics
They have played six games during pre-season and haven’t managed a win, drawing two and losing four. The Wanderers played two behind-closed-doors friendlies against Santa Clara, a 2-1 loss and a 1-1 draw with Burnley. Another 1-1 draw followed against Championship side Stoke City, followed by three defeats in a row to RC Lens (3-1), Girona (2-1), and Celta Vigo (1-0).

These results highlight that Wolves need to improve quickly if they want to avoid a similar start to last season, which found them in relegation trouble. Despite these setbacks, the integration of the new signings will be crucial for the side as they prepare for the season opener.
Pereira said during the pre-match press conference: “A successful season for Wolves is to do better than last season”.
Injuries To Consider
Yerson Mosquera has returned to training and made an 11-minute cameo from the bench against Celta Vigo after his ACL injury early last season. He is not expected to start but may make the squad. Fábio Silva has also had a hamstring injury. He has returned to training but has not featured in Wolves’ last two friendlies.
