Chelsea currently have a £70million hole in their accounts following their ongoing sponsorship issues, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League side played the majority of last season without a front-of-shirt sponsor and have so far failed to agree a deal for the 2025-26 campaign.

Chelsea wanted to agree a £50million shirt deal last summer before being forced to lower their asking price as the season went on.

The Blues announced a short-term deal in April for DAMAC to appear on the front of their shirts for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.

Chelsea are looking to agree a £60million deal for the season ahead after holding talks with various interested parties on the back of their Club World Cup victory.

However, there will be no primary shirt sponsor on display as Enzo Maresca’s side prepare to take on Crystal Palace in their season-opener on Sunday (17 August), while the club are also currently without sleeve sponsors for their first-team shirt or training kit.

Sources say those three components could be worth around £70million a season for Chelsea, increasing the need for them to agree new partnerships.

Chelsea and Man United hit by sponsor issues

Chelsea have faced front-of-shirt sponsorship issues for the best part of the past two campaigns.

They struck a £40million-a-year deal with Infinite Athlete in September 2023, but the agreement expired last summer.

It makes up a significant portion of the Blues’ revenue, which fell from £512million in 2022-23 to £468million in 2023-24 despite their commercial revenue increasing from £210million to £225million across the same period.

However, Chelsea aren’t the only Premier League club facing these kind of issues as Manchester United remain without a training kit sponsor after their £20million deal with Tezos expired at the end of last season.

Chelsea have spent £200m+ after deals agreed

The ongoing sponsorship issues haven’t prevented Chelsea from spending big in the transfer market again this summer.

Maresca’s side have spent around £240million on new additions, with Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato, Liam Delap, Estavao, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr and Kendry Paez all making the move to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are set to play in the Champions League after finishing fourth in the Premier League table last season.
