Phil Parkinson may be left disappointed as Leeds United move could thwart Wrexham transfer plan …

Wrexham’s transfer plans could be dealt a blow by the actions of Premier League side Leeds United.

The Red Dragons have made wholesale changes to their squad this summer, adding nine senior players to their ranks.

The latest addition saw Wrexham sign Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town this week in a club record deal.

After Broadhead, a few more signings are still expected to be made before the deadline on September 1.

Wrexham want to sign Lewis Koumas on loan from Premier League champions Liverpool.

Elsewhere, reports going into the weekend have suggested that the Dragons are interested in landing Hamza Choudhury from Leicester City.

However, a deal Leeds United are working on could prevent the Foxes from sanctioning a Choudhury exit.

Why Leicester City may not let Wrexham sign Hamza Choudhury

Leicester have PSR problems and could be hit with a points deduction this season.

Their financial issues have so far seen the Foxes have a very limited summer transfer window, with a 38-year-old Asmir Begovic on a free the only addition so far.

The Midlands side are moving players on, however, and it’s been reported by Leeds Live that the Yorkshire club are in advanced talks for Leicester right-back James Justin.

Should Justin indeed get a move to Elland Road, it seems unlikely the Foxes would then let Choudhury leave as well.

He is a natural midfielder and would likely take up that role if he were to move to the Racecourse Ground.

For Leicester, however, he has featured at right-back on several occasions – a position they are light in.

Should Justin leave, Choudhury would be needed to fill the void in that role, given they only have one more senior option in Woyo Coulibaly.

Coulibaly arrived at the King Power Stadium in January but has not made a league appearance since February 21 and was not included in Leicester’s matchday squad on the opening weekend.

The sale of Justin would therefore surely mean that the recently relegated team have to keep hold of Choudhury so they have an option at right-back.

They could sign a replacement for the Leeds-bound ace, but as already mentioned, Leicester have been extremely quiet on the transfer front this summer.

Hamza Choudhury stats

Choudhury has played one game for Leicester in 2025/26 so far, starting at right-back in the Carabao Cup as their captain versus Huddersfield Town.

He has notched 132 appearances in all competitions for the Midlands club, scoring three and assisting four.

The second half of 2024/25 saw the 27-year-old sent out on loan to Sheffield United in the Championship.

He impressed for the Blades, and it’s clear he is a solid option for any team in the second tier; it just seems unlikely he will be allowed to move on at the same time as Justin.
