Edson Álvarez’s future at West Ham United remains uncertain and it’s possible he could change clubs this summer.
The Mexico international arrived at West Han from Ajax in 2023 and his former club can be an option for him.
On Friday, Voetbal International reported Ajax have identified the West Ham player as a surprise target. Later that day, Ajax manager John Heitinga said he’d welcome Álvarez, who can be an asset for the club.
ESPN NL provide the latest on the Dutch club’s efforts to try and sign the midfielder, a position which they are looking to strengthen.
The Eredivisie side’s plan is to sign the 27-year-old on loan and they need finances even for a temporary deal.
He earns over €6m per year at West Ham, which Ajax can’t afford. Therefore, a solution has to be found on what percentage of his salary the Amsterdam club have to cover for loan.
ESPN NL contacted the Mexican’s agent, Nathan van Kooperen, to find out if his client can return to Ajax on loan.
“Difficult, but not impossible. And certainly not today or tomorrow,” he said.
In other words, Ajax need to be patient to sign Álvarez on loan in this window.
