Former Celtic winger Ben Doak is reportedly closing in on a £25million move from Liverpool to Bournemouth, just two years after leaving Parkhead for a fraction of that figure.
The Scotland international departed Celtic during Ange Postecoglou’s time in charge, with the Hoops only receiving around £600,000 in compensation due to his age.
At the time, Doak had only made a handful of first-team appearances, including a cameo in a Glasgow derby, but Liverpool swooped to secure his services before Celtic could tie him down on a long-term deal.
Since then, Doak has developed at Anfield and furthered his progress on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship last season. His strong performances earned him a call-up to the Scotland senior squad.
Now, with Bournemouth keen to add pace and directness to their attack, the 19-year-old looks set to make the switch to the south coast in a deal worth £25m, The Guardian reports. It would represent a huge profit for Liverpool, while Celtic are left to rue the early exit of one of their most promising academy products in recent years.
It’s not quite worked out in Merseyside for the player, but a fresh start with less pressure – and more first-team opportunities – could be what he needs.
