Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has opened up about PSR after they reluctantly sold Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle United.
The deal has not yet officially been confirmed, but the 24-year-old has been pictured arriving on Tyneside and later at St James’ Park ahead of his official unveiling.
Jacob Ramsey is soon to be announced as a Newcastle United player following a move in excess of £40million from Aston Villa. Ramsey is a graduate of Aston Villa’s academy, with his move being motivated by his boyhood club’s worrying PSR stance.
Geordie Boot Boys were told that Villa are in serious trouble with PSR, so the deal for Ramsey represents around £40million in pure profit due to his academy roots. The Magpies made a similar deal in 2024 when Elliot Anderson was sold to Nottingham Forest for £35million, although he was reluctant to leave.
With Ramsey completing his medical and soon to be announced as a Newcastle player, Villa boss Unai Emery has shared his thoughts on PSR and what they must do in the future.

Unai Emery remains calm about PSR after Jacob Ramsey completes Newcastle United medical
Geordie Boot Boys understand that Ramsey could replace Joelinton in Newcastle’s starting XI, with the Brazilian turning 29 this month. However, it remains to be seen whether Ramsey is a long-term replacement for Joelinton or somebody who will be thrown straight into the starting line-up.
The Englishman is a step up from the likes of Sean Longstaff, with his versatility and raw talent a clear draw for Howe.
Newcastle will be pleased that they have relieved a Premier League rival of one of their top assets and given them more of a headache when it comes to their UEFA squad registration.

PSR was a clear catalyst for the deal, but Emery remained fairly calm about the situation, though his comments were still telling of how he truly felt.
“I am not frustrated.” he told the press on Friday.
“I accept the rules. I accept where we are and how we are competing and our capacity to compete.
“We have to be proud of what we have done so far and we have to do it again and again. I am motivated and excited, not frustrated.”
Whether Jacob Ramsey will play for Newcastle United vs Aston Villa
After Ramsey, Newcastle are hopeful of signing a striker, with a move for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa likely.
Pundits have said that Wissa is ‘desperate’ to join Newcastle, who are hoping for progress over a deal this weekend.
All eyes are on Villa Park this afternoon, with Newcastle hoping the turbulent summer can be forgotten with a win, but they will not have their latest addition available.
Howe confirmed Malick Thiaw will feature against Villa, and confirmed that he does not think Ramsey is able to play. Failure to register Ramsey before the 12pm deadline on Friday means that he is not eligible to play against his former club.
