Direct meeting with Arne Slot sees Liverpool player set to stay at Anfield

Federico Chiesa left Juventus for Liverpool towards the end of last summer and finished his debut season at Anfield with 466 minutes from 14 games.

Two months ago, the Italy international said he’ll look for the best possible solution when asked about his future. He’s been linked with a move back to Serie A this summer.

On July 30th, Sport Mediaset suggested Liverpool could offload Chiesa for €10m after a disappointing season. Three days ago, Il Mattino reported the 27-year-old’s camp believe a move away from the Reds is the right solution.

Chiesa has put these claims to bed by ruling out a move away from the Premier League winners. On Friday, he scored in Liverpool’s 4-2 win over AFC Bournemouth and after the tie, the forward had a chat with Sky Italia.

On his struggles last season, he said: “This goal repays all the work I’ve done. Last year, I can say I arrived in difficult conditions. I hadn’t trained at Juve, and I arrived here struggling, with a different pace. I don’t know why this decision was made, but not training for a month penalised me on my journey at Anfield. Slot has always encouraged me.”

On his future at Liverpool, Chiesa explained: “I’m very happy here, I’m at one of the strongest clubs in the world, as the transfer market has shown.”

Gazzetta dello Sport, relayed by FcInterNews, provides a background on why Chiesa will continue at Liverpool.

The player recently had a direct meeting with Arne Slot and his agent, Fali Ramadani, with the Liverpool management. It’s claimed Chiesa is ‘considered unsellable’ for the English champions and therefore, his exit has been ruled out.

Gazzetta suggests Liverpool could change their stance if they were to buy Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
