Fabrizio Romano: £100,000-a-week West Ham star to leave before deadline, talks planned

West Ham United midfielder Edson Alvarez is expected to leave the club before the transfer deadline, GIVEMESPORT senior reporter Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The Mexico international could soon bring an end to his two-year stint at the London Stadium as he is exploring his options amid growing interest from other clubs.

Romano claims several sides are keen on the midfielder and talks are expected to follow to potentially determine his next career destination.

Alvarez, who joined West Ham from Ajax in the summer of 2023, has made 73 appearances for the Hammers to date, scoring two goals and providing three assists.

He struggled with a back injury towards the end of last season, which limited his involvement under Graham Potter as he started just twice in the last 10 games of the Premier League campaign.

Romano, writing on X, revealed that Alvarez is expected to depart West Ham before the end of the summer transfer window, with several clubs keen on the midfielder.

Romano later provided an update from Alvarez’s agent, Nathan Van Kooperen, on the Mexican’s potential return to Ajax and revealed that there is interest from the Eredivisie giants.

Several clubs are believed to be in the race for the 27-year-old midfielder, and movement is reportedly expected around the weekend regarding his future away from West Ham.

Alvarez, who made 31 appearances for West Ham last season, is under contract at the London Stadium until June 2028 and reportedly earns £100,000 per week.

West Ham’s transfer activity has picked up pace in recent days, as deals were confirmed for Callum Wilson’s arrival on a free transfer and Mads Hermansen’s move from Leicester City.

The Hammers have previously welcomed full-backs Kyle Walker-Peters and El Hadji Malick Diouf and also struck a permanent deal for Jean Clair-Todibo.

According to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Dean Jones, Potter is now on the lookout for midfield reinforcements – interest persists in Leicester City star Bilal El Khannouss, with movement not ruled out before the deadline.
