Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is linin up a move for Arsenal star Leandro Trossard. The Belgian forward is yet to commit his long-term future to the north London club.
Unai Emery targets Arsenal forward
Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery looks ready to test **Arsenal**’s stance on Leandro Trossard. The Villans have been relatively quiet in this window. Evann Guessand is the only arrival so far this summer. That has left fans expecting more signings before the deadline.
Meanwhile, Trossard fits the bill, having been a consistent performer in the top flight since his Brighton days. The Belgian has slipped down Mikel Arteta’s pecking order recently. This comes after Arsenal brought in Noni Madueke from Chelsea. So, that makes a move away more likely.
Villa are in need of an attacking option after Marcus Rashford’s loan spell ended. So, Trossard could be the man to slot straight in and bring much-needed spark. His creativity and eye for goal would offer Villa the balance required. The Midlands club are chasing another strong season under Emery.
Contract uncertainty gives Villa hope
Trossard’s current deal at Arsenal remains unsigned. That is despite talks earlier in the year that included a new wage package worth around £90k-a-week. The Gunners are believed to value him at around £18m. This is a figure well within Villa’s budget given Jacob Ramsey’s expected switch to Newcastle and Leon Bailey’s possible exit.
Sources claim that initial talks between the clubs took place this week. The player is made aware of Villa’s interest. Importantly, the final decision will rest with Trossard. He must weigh up guaranteed game time at Villa Park against fighting for his spot in Arsenal’s crowded attack. The level of European experience that Trossard has is huge. And Emery has previous success in Europe as well.
That said, this could be a good match. It will surely be an added depth for Villa, and a sign of how serious they are now about trying to win trophies.
