Savinho has an ‘interesting’ clause in his Man City contract as Tottenham make bid to sign him…

We’re headed into the final few weeks of the summer transfer window, and Manchester City could be busy.

Indeed, for the first time in a long time, City have some situations to resolve in the final weeks of the summer window.

Gianluigi Donnarumma could sign for City before the window closes, while Rodrygo is also on Pep Guardiola’s radar.

Savinho could join Tottenham this summer too, and speaking on Transfers Exposed, Will Pugh has shared an interesting detail about Savinho’s contract.

Savinho has ‘interesting’ contract clause at Man City

According to Pugh. Savinho has a contract clause in his City contract that means his wages will double once he plays 100 games.

At the moment, Savinho earns around £45k-a-week, and he is tempted by the idea of joining Tottenham and immediately earning a salary bump.

“One interesting thing about that, we understand at Sun Sport is that in Savinho’s contract he gets around £40,000 to £45,000 a week at the moment,” Pugh said.

“Obviously lots of these contracts are incentivised. It’s around 40 to 45 grand, but there’s a clause in there which dictates that if he hits a certain amount of games for Manchester City, which I believe is around 100, that his wages as good as double.”

“Now, his sense is that this season he is going to struggle for game time. I say last season like a decent amount of 48 appearances in all competitions. Man City have got loads of games to play again this season, but the sense certainly among his camp seems to be that well he could easily double his wages now.

“Particularly with the move to Tottenham, they’re not going to think twice about paying 80 grand a week. And the sense being that it may take him a season and a half to do that at Manchester City to get to the the £100k-a-week mark and that actually he can just save himself 18 months of earning 40 grand a week.”

When will Savinho play his 100th Manchester City game

Savinho is set for a hefty payrise once he plays his 100th game for Manchester City, and while that is exciting for the player, it could be some way off.

Indeed, as Pugh says, Savinho is expecting to play fewer games this season.

Savinho needs to play 52 matches this season to hit that 100 mark, but if he’s expecting his gametime to reduce, he probably won’t hit that mark.

Realistically, he could be waiting until Christmas in 2026 to play his 100th City game, and, it’s easy to understand why any player would be looking for a more immediate pay boost rather than waiting 18 months or so earning a lesser amount.
