Manchester United's pursuit of Carlos Baleba appears to have stalled for the time being in what is perhaps a wise move for the club as the summer deadline ends.
If Baleba had been a target for the Old Trafford giants in June they could have perhaps afforded themselves more time to negotiate with Brighton. As it has turned out, the actual focus has been to add to their attack, particularly considering that the club's strikers were so blunt last season.
It has been well documented that the Seagulls wanted at least £100million for Baleba and, crucially, they were not willing to sell him this summer. As such, The Manchester Evening News reported on Friday that United were happy to wait until next year to sign Baleba.
While this will have come as a disappointment for many fans, the fact of the matter is that United simply do not have the time to waste if they want to add a midfielder to their squad before the window slams shut. If Brighton are not willing to do the deal, they are best off moving on.
Plus, it's clear that this is unlikely to be a final chapter in the book for United and Baleba. The Athletic understands that Baleba is willing to keep pushing for a move to United but is happy to remain patient and wait until next year if that's what it takes.
In truth, this is the next best scenario for United if they are unable to sign Baleba this summer. The fact the player is showing a willingness to move to Old Trafford and yet he is still wanting to work hard at his current club, shows the type of character he is and how he shall benefit this group.

Come this time next year, the hope will be that United have made Europe so have more money behind them and, therefore will find a deal for Baleba much more feasibly for their bank balance. The suggestion that the Cameroon international is open to wait for them is a cherry on top of that cake.
