Emeka Egbuka Got Lost In The Shuffle

Prepares for battle.

You may have heard Mike Evans put on a show in Pittsburgh for the maybe 60 members of the Fourth Estate and about 100 VIP Steelers fans at the Crib That Antonio Brown Built.

Yeah, Evans dominated in Pittsburgh. It was fun to watch. Joe sure hopes the Bucs release a video package of that display. It was fun.

But lost in all the (well-deserved) panting over Evans was Bucs rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka. He, too, put on a show, but it was certainly a step below Evans. No shame there.

On one catch Egbuka skied in the end zone like a power forward with his back to the left sideline. In doing so, he boxed out Steelers linebacker Joey Porter. Joe didn’t realize how high Egbuka could rise but he demonstrated it on this play.

It wasn’t Egbuka’s only strong play of practice and Bucs coach Todd Bowles continued to rave about his abilities.

Evans making plays on stud defenders is nothing shocking. But Bowles really liked how Egbuka was able to make plays against what is thought to be one of the better defenses in the game.

> “I think Emeka’s gonna play the same no matter who he plays against,” Bowles said. “He’s that polished. He wants to get better, no matter who’s out there.

> “Obviously, \[Pittsburgh has\] some Pro Bowl corners over there, which was good work for us as well. So that was good to see for him.”

Evans has had a dynamite summer. If this hasn’t been his best training camp, it’s in the top two. The thing is, Evans has been overshadowing Egbuka, even though the Bucs rookie doesn’t look like a rookie at all.
