Arsenal new boy Viktor Gyokeres could join an exclusive Premier League goalscoring club on his competition debut when the Gunners take on Manchester United on Sunday.
The Sweden international comes face-to-face with former Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim on his first competitive appearance for Arsenal, whom he has already found the back of the net for in friendly action.
Gyokeres opened the scoring with a terrific header in the Gunners' 3-0 Emirates Cup victory over Athletic Bilbao last weekend, before also coming agonisingly close to bagging a second aerial effort, which struck the post in the second half.
The 27-year-old is facing intense competition from Kai Havertz for the number nine spot after the latter also made the net bulge against Athletic, but Gyokeres has been tipped to edge out his German foe to make his full Premier League debut against his old admirers.
Should Gyokeres make an appearance and find the back of the net, he will also join an elite goalscoring club, potentially becoming just the third man to score away to Man United on their Premier League debut.
Gyokeres can achieve Premier League scoring feat for first time in 28 years

The first player to achieve that particular feat was Mo Johnston, who rounded off the scoring in a 3-0 win for Everton at Old Trafford in 1992, before Paulo Wanchope followed in his footsteps five years later.
Wanchope was on target for Derby County at Old Trafford on his Premier League debut in April 1997, helping to propel the Rams to a 3-2 win over Sir Alex Ferguson's Man United, but no Premier League debutant at the Theatre of Dreams has followed suit since.
However, Gyokeres returns to English football as the most prolific scorer in any of Europe's top 10 leagues over the past two years, registering an astronomical 68 goals in 66 Primeira Liga appearances for Sporting across the 2023-24 and 2024-25 campaigns.
The former Coventry City striker was inevitably tipped to reunite with Amorim at Man United earlier this year, but he only had eyes for a move to Arsenal, who dropped their interest in Benjamin Sesko to pursue Gyokeres after being put off by RB Leipzig's price demands for the former.
Arsenal and Gyokeres's decisions allowed Man United to swoop in and agree a deal for Sesko, who has been labelled "Adebayor-esque" ahead of his expected debut on Sunday, but he has also been warned that one returning Arsenal hero can stifle his aerial threat.

On the other hand, if the Slovenian can help propel Man United to an opening-day victory, the Red Devils would also achieve a momentous feat no other English club has managed in the history of the game.
Man United are currently sitting on 99 wins over Arsenal, who in turn have beaten their rivals 89 times while playing out 55 draws, and they could now become the first team to ever beat the Gunners 100 times in all competitions.
However, the Red Devils' defensive record in this particular fixture has left a lot to be desired, as Arsenal have managed to score in each of their last 11 Premier League games away to Man United.
The last time the Gunners drew a blank at Old Trafford in the top flight came back in November 2013, when Robin van Persie scored the only goal against his old club in a 1-0 victory.
