Manchester United will face Arsenal in their opening fixture of the 2024/25 Premier League season, with manager Ruben Amorim still pushing to strengthen his squad before the campaign kicks off.
The Red Devils have already secured some major additions this summer, most notably the signing of superstar striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.
However, Amorim is also keen to reinforce his midfield and has been pursuing options in both the holding and defensive midfield positions.
United were strongly linked with Brighton’s Carlos Baleba but have since cooled their interest after holding club-to-club talks in recent days.
Brighton’s reported £115 million valuation proved a significant stumbling block, prompting United to explore alternatives.
According to FootballTransfers.com, Feyenoord midfielder Quinten Timber has now emerged as a serious option.
Netherlands-based journalist Milan Keskin reports that Amorim has identified the 24-year-old as a potential solution, with sources indicating United are considering a formal approach.
Timber, the twin brother of Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber, has less than a year remaining on his contract at De Kuip. Feyenoord may be forced to cash in this summer rather than risk losing him for free next year.
A product of Ajax’s academy, Timber joined FC Utrecht on a free transfer in 2021 before moving to Feyenoord the following year.

Since then, he has established himself as a key figure, valued for his ability to operate in both deep-lying and advanced midfield roles, qualities that would make him a versatile fit in Amorim’s double-pivot system.
Alongside Timber, Sporting CP’s Morten Hjulmand is also believed to be on United’s shortlist as the club look to address their midfield gaps.
United, who endured a disastrous 15th-place finish last season, their worst in over 60 years, will be determined to start the new campaign on a strong note. Sunday’s clash against Arsenal at Old Trafford promises to be a significant test of their summer rebuild.
