Goals from Floyd Samba (2), Christian Dunbar-McDonald (2) and Kylan Midwood saw the young Blues secure a 5-0 victory on a sunny afternoon at the City Football Academy.

It was an exciting match where City showcased their clinical finishing and determination with Samba and Dunbar-McDonald both recording a brace.

The three points see City make a fast start to the U18 Premier League North table on the opening weekend and the boss spoke of his delight to City Studios.

“I’m quite happy today, winning a game is our target always, but it’s not just about this it’s also about the performance, especially at the beginning of a season,” he said.

“But our performance without the ball, that’s what we wanted to bring into the game from the first minute, the energy, the intensity and it was great again.”

Our next test sees us travel to Sunderland for another gruelling head-to-head.

And for Reiss and his squad it’s important to keep the momentum going and brew confidence amongst the squad.

“I want the players to think about a performance but also individually ‘I was good today, but why?’ and to remember what they have to bring into the next game and to maintain this quality and keep this quality high.

“This is the feeling to learn and to think about the ‘why I was good today, why we were good today,’ and then they know better at what to do next.”

We also got a first glimpse at our latest signing Teddie Lamb who joined the young Blues from Leyton Orient and Reiss was pleased with his performance.

“I’m happy with him, we all know about the qualities of our players, their abilities and the skills they have, but yeah [for him] it’s the same as all the other players, so the way they try and work hard, this impressed me again.

“Also in terms of him against the ball, always asking for the ball, first of all try to increase their intensity to work hard on the pitch, so the whole team is like this and especially Teddie as a number nine.”
