Chelsea have reportedly turned down an offer from Borussia Dortmund for Carney Chukwuemeka, as they do not want another loan exit.
According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are willing to sell Carney Chukwuemeka, but the offer from Borussia Dortmund is simply not up to the mark. The West London outfit paid £20 million for the English midfielder, and it will be interesting to see if they can recover a substantial amount of money for the forgotten prospect.
Romano has claimed that Chelsea were not happy with the loan offer from the Bundesliga club. They had included a purchase obligation clause as well. Chelsea considered the offer insulting, especially when they have had offers of a permanent transfer from other clubs. It will be interesting to see if Borussia Dortmund come forward with a permanent deal to sign the player.
They need to add more quality and depth in the middle of the park, and Chukwuemeka would be a solid long-term acquisition for them. The Englishman does not have a future at Chelsea, and he will look to sort out a move before the summer transfer window closes. Staying at the West London club makes no sense for him. The youngster needs to focus on his development, and he needs regular game time at this stage of his career.
Chelsea looking to get rid of fringe players
Chelsea have been very active in the transfer market this summer, and they will look to raise some funds through the departures of their fringe players. Selling the midfielder would be ideal for them, and it remains to be seen whether they can sort out a permanent exit for the player.
The English midfielder was highly rated in England a few seasons ago, but his development has not gone according to plan. A fresh start could be ideal for him, and moving to Germany makes a lot of sense.
Plenty of young players have gone on to become established first-team players with regular opportunities in Germany. Chukwuemeka will be hoping to get his career back on track as well. Borussia Dortmund have a rich history of developing young players as well, and they could be the ideal destination for him.
