Liverpool continue to show interest in Alexander Isak, as Newcastle United’s star striker continues to look for a move away from the club.

The two clubs have now been embroiled in a transfer saga for many weeks now, and despite Liverpool’s multiple summer additions, they still see the Swede as the missing piece.

After another great season in black and white for Alexander Isak, which included the winner in Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup Final win over Liverpool, he is now looking to move to the Premier League champions for the development of his career.

A move that Newcastle are not making straight-forward.

They have failed to strengthen the squad in the way that they would like this summer and have so far not signed an attacking replacement that would open up the door for Isak to leave the club.

Instead, tensions continue to rise, and with Premier League football now returning, things will only get spicier if Isak continues to sit out games.

Liverpool head to St. James Park next week for the second game of their title defence, and that is shaping up to be a fierce contest.

When asked about it following Newcastle’s 0-0 draw against Aston Villa this afternoon, Anthony Gordon said:

“It has been difficult because we’re such a tight knit group. We’ve never really had any problems publicly and that being the first thing that’s happened, it’s tested us, but we’ve still got that spirit that togetherness and it’s never going to go regardless of the individuals.”

“It can bring us closer, things like this can test you and make you better in the end.”

“I think with everything that has gone on I’m sure the atmosphere against Liverpool I going to be a bit wild!”

All the emotion from Newcastle United’s players and fans could reach a fever pitch next week, but the Reds have to remain calm and continue the strong start they made yesterday, which saw them grab all three points in their Premier League opener against Bournemouth.
