‘They know’: Alan Shearer claims Liverpool were 'belittling' Newcastle over Alexander Isak

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has slammed Liverpool’s bid for Alexander Isak as “belittling”.

Newcastle have rejected an offer from Liverpool for Isak which is thought to have been well below the club’s valuation of the striker.

Newcastle value Isak at around £150million but Liverpool are yet to get anywhere near that level despite their ongoing pursuit of the forward.

Isak is desperate to leave Newcastle and is reportedly set for a huge fine after missing the 0-0 draw against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Newcastle fans are furious with Isak and it remains to be seen if the feeling on the terraces convinces owners PIF to get rid of him despite consistently stressing that he’s not for sale.

Speaking about the Isak saga, Shearer gave his view.

Alan Shearer spots “good sign” in Aston Villa vs Newcastle United

Newcastle played well against Villa and would surely have won with a striker on the pitch.

Anthony Elanga and Anthony Gordon both missed great chances and the lack of a presence in the final third was notable.

Still, it was a solid performance after a difficult summer for the club. Given all that’s gone on, it’s at least good to see that the Newcastle United squad haven’t let their standards slip.

On social media platform X, Shearer highlighted the fact that Newcastle actually being disappointed with a draw was a good response from the team given the circumstances.
