Federico Chiesa has sent a message after scoring a winning goal for Liverpool against Bournemouth. The Italy international made a cameo appearance from the bench in the 4-2 victory over the Cherries in the Premier League opener on Friday night.

Goals from Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah, alongside Chiesa, helped Liverpool claim all three points as they began their Premier League title defence in style. The Reds were all-square at 2-2 heading into the 88th minute before Chiesa scored what proved to be one of the decisive goals in the contest.

The strike was also Chiesa's first goal in the Premier League since his £10million move from Juventus 12 months ago. The goal comes amid ongoing speculation about the 27-year-old's future at Anfield and rumours of a potential return to Italy.

A day after scoring a crucial goal for Liverpool, Chiesa took to social media to issue a message to his 4.8million Ibstagram followers. The message read: "Anfield nights #DJ20Forever," accompanied by a red love heart emoji.

The hashtag is related to Liverpool's tribute to Diogo Jota ahead of kick-off and during the game at Anfield. The Kop had a mosaic which read "DJ20" before the fixture against Bournemouth, while fans across all four stands inside the stadium regularly sang Jota's famous song throughout the contest on Friday night.

Liverpool's win over Bournemouth was their first competitive fixture since Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, died in a car crash in Spain last month. Chiesa spoke of the emotions he felt after the win over Bournemouth and dedicated his goal to Jota and Andre.

"It is, it's a great goal and it was really emotional today," Chiesa told LFCTV.

"After I scored, my thoughts went to Diogo, to Andre and to Diogo's family who were here today. It was really emotional. The goal was for him.

"In my mind, Diogo was somewhere in here helping me to score this goal. I would like to think of it like that.

"He is always going to be with us. It was tough today but it was a great atmosphere, the fans were amazing throughout the game."
