Tonight’s probably the biggest game of Kyle Trask’s professional career.
It’s kind of a wild statement for a fifth-year veteran, but the Bucs’ backup quarterback has never started in the NFL regular season and his only significant action was in a game the Bucs were tanking after clinching the NFC South crown for the 2022 season.
Trask may be battling for a roster spot as quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was signed last week and will see his first preseason action tonight in Pittsburgh.
Trask had a solid game against the Titans in the preseason opener and Gators fans know well that he’s a true competitor. And yes, Joe believes Trask is competing.
Bridgewater was signed for a reason. Joe believes the move was sparked by Trask looking shaky with the first-team offense in practice when Baker Mayfield sat out part of this summer’s training camp with a bruised hand.
Trask is expected to start tonight and will play behing the starting offensive line, minus Tristan Wirfs. A bad game for Trask will createa massive opening for Bridgewater.
Joe hopes Trask can show he’s still the guy who threw 43 touchdowns in 12 games as a senior with the Gators in 2020.
