Patriots rookie RB TreVeyon Henderson impresses again in preseason win at Minnesota

Well, he did it again.

Patriots rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson scored another touchdown in a preseason game, bursting through several would-be Vikings tacklers on an 8-yard run Saturday. Henderson finished with four carries for 20 yards and the touchdown in a Pats 20-12 win. He did not play past the first quarter.

Henderson also sat for the majority of the Patriots’ preseason opener last week against Washington, a game he opened with a 100-yard kick return touchdown. The second-round rookie has impressed throughout the summer, and his head coach has certainly taken note.

“He runs hard and protects the ball, and guys were finishing and gave him a little bit of crease,” Vrabel said post-game of Henderson’s touchdown run. “And that you don’t need much (space), he finds it. And it was a big, good run early in the game.”

Henderson split the top running back reps with veteran Antonio Gibson all week in Minnesota, where the Patriots joined the Vikings for two midweek joint practices. He scored a 70-yard catch-and-run touchdown in the first joint session Wednesday to win a 2-minute drill against Minnesota’s starting defense. Incumbent starter Rhamondre Stevenson missed both practices and Saturday’s exhibition due to injury.

According to Patriots broadcaster and former captain Devin McCourty, Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores told him their defense was “blown away” by Henderson. He is expected to push Gibson and Stevenson for significant touches this season.
