Packers quietly undo Matthew Golden mistake and finally learn the lesson

MarShawn Lloyd can't catch a break. The Green Bay Packers' second-year running back had the worst luck imaginable in his rookie season, and it has, unfortunately, continued this summer.

Lloyd missed time with a groin injury that kept him out of the preseason opener. He finally made his return in Saturday's contest against the Indianapolis Colts, but exited the game after making an impressive 33-yard reception on a wheel route. Head coach Matt LaFleur provided a cryptic update following the game.

"We'll see," LaFleur said when asked if Lloyd is OK.

MarShawn Lloyd's status is unclear after suffering a hamstring injury in Packers' preseason win

Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Lloyd is dealing with hamstring tightness.

How significant is the injury? Only time will tell. It's concerning, given Lloyd's recent injury history, including two hamstring issues last season. The second-year running back appeared to suffer the injury at the end of his 33-yard catch, as he looked in some discomfort before stepping off the field.

It's unfortunate, and the Packers can only hope it's nothing serious. Lloyd has game-changing ability due to his athleticism and speed, and we saw a glimpse of it on his reception before getting hurt. This past week at practice, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic noted that Lloyd "drew oohs and ahhs from his own teammates."

He just needs some good luck and a run of games to show what he can do in the regular season.

If Lloyd misses time, the Packers will rely on Josh Jacobs, Emanuel Wilson, and Chris Brooks as their top three, the same as last season. Israel Abanikanda and Amar Johnson are pushing for roster spots, having continued to impress in the preseason win over the Colts.

Hopefully, the Packers will get good news on Lloyd. Hamstring tightness isn't necessarily bad news, and it's smart to play it safe and take him out of the game. But LaFleur's answer is a little concerning. Maybe he doesn't have the information and is waiting for an update. Only time will tell.

Lloyd has endured awful injury luck since entering the NFL and had only recently returned from a groin issue that sidelined him in the preseason. We can only hope his exit from Saturday's game was precautionary and not an injury that will keep him out for long.
