Former Oregon Duck QB Dillon Gabriel made plenty of headlines on Saturday during the Cleveland Browns’ 22-13 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in their second preseason game, but it wasn’t due to his performance.
Gabriel — who was drafted by the Browns in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft — completed 13 of his 18 pass attempts for 149 yards, and threw one interception. However, upon exiting the game, Gabriel gave an interview with sideline reporter [Aditi Kinkhabwala in which he made a controversial statement](https://x.com/jaredkmueller/status/1956800751361053140?s=46&t=SF-knYTy_vdKy3mmfTQuvQ) regarding “entertainers and competitors.”
“There are entertainers and there are competitors, and I totally understand that,” Gabriel said during the third quarter of the Browns’ victory. “My job is to compete, and that's what I'm doing... It's something that I'll get used to, and I just want to be the best teammate that I can, and create an environment where we can all get our best work in.”
Initially, many speculated that these comments may have been directed at fellow Browns QB Shedeur Sanders, who is obviously no stranger to the spotlight. However, this wasn’t the case, and Gabriel clarified his comments in the [post-game press conference](https://x.com/camijustice/status/1956855054465433988?s=46&t=SF-knYTy_vdKy3mmfTQuvQ).
“All of you in this room are entertainers. You have a job to do, and I respect it,” Gabriel said. “I am a competitor, so I have a job to do as well. I think understanding that, that's how I live by, and I think I've said that multiple times. It's definitely not a new quote but something that I've definitely said before.”
Gabriel and Sanders will continue to compete for reps this season as the two former college stars look to continue their legacies in the NFL.
