All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Chelsea as they prepare to kick off their new season.

Chelsea are back in action today, on Sunday, when they open their Premier League account against London rivals Crystal Palace. The Blues are expecting to take another step forward this term, and this will be an interesting test against an Eagles side that has regularly surprised big-name opponents.

Simons boost

Chelsea look to have held off interest from Bayern Munich as they look to sign RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons. The Blues are waiting on exits to be able to complete a £60million deal for Simons, but the player is willing t be patient.

So much so that, according to Florian Plettenberg, Simons has rejected interest from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich as he waits for a Chelsea deal to be completed. That is great news for the Blues, who would have had plenty of room for concern given they can’t complete the Simons deal until they know another high profile player will be leaving the club.

Bayern have also been linked with Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku, so the German club could actually end up handing Chelsea the key to the Simons deal now that they have been rejected by the Dutchmann.

Veiga interest

Champions League-bound Villarreal are said to have shown interest in Chelsea star Renato Veiga, who is one of the players who has been made available this summer.

Fabrizio Romano has reported: “Villarreal have sent formal bid to Chelsea for Renato Veiga — it falls short of expectations. Formal contract proposal to Veiga also sent as dream target for centre back position. The Portuguese defender is keen on the move but difficult to agree club to club.”

Delap on the new season

Chelsea striker Liam Delap is excited for the start of the new season. He told club media ahead of the opening game: “It’s a special feeling, but it’s probably a new pressure we have to deal with,' the 22-year-old explained. 'People are going to be fighting hard against us, but we have got the mindset that we’re ready to compete and show what a good team we are.”

On his fellow new signings, he added: “They are really high-quality players and I’m sure they are going to bring a lot of joy and good football to the team. Of course, the quality of the team is incredible and we’ve got some really, really talented players. There's the competitive side you need in big teams to compete for trophies; it’s so important to have that depth. I’ve got to try my best, they’ve got to try their best, and hopefully we can do it together.”
