So the first-team offense minus Mike Evans and Baker Mayfield were on the field tonight with a surprise starter throwing the ball.
Joe asked Todd Bowles about his decision to start veteran Teddy Bridgewater at quarterback over Kyle Trask, the guy the Bucs said two weeks ago is their No. 2 quarterback.
> “Yeah, we wanted to see him in action. That’s by no means a demotion for Kyle \[Trask\]. But we wanted to see him play; we didn’t want to see him play in mop-up time,” Bowles replied. “So we wanted to put him out there and see him and see where he was. And he did a good job.”
And the Bridgewater performance after being signed in early August?
> “That’s pretty good. I mean, that’s pretty good,” Bowles said. “For only being in there 12 days is another reason we wanted to put him out there early — with guys that knew what they were doing. So, he did a great job. He threw two great passes.”
Joe followed up to ask Bowles if he would keep three quarterbacks on the roster. “Don’t know yet,” Bowles replied.
Joe’s starting to wonder whether Trask will clear waivers.
