All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Arsenal as they prepare to open their season.
The Gunners head into this season with the pressure of needing to end their title drought, and they could yet spend ore money in a bid to make that happen. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Emirates Stadium.
Benedetti links
Arsenal are said to be interested in signing Palmeiras talent Luiz Benedetti. Chelsea have typically cleaned up in the South American market when it comes to top young talent over the last year or two, but the Gunners will also be keeping an eye on that part of the world.
According to Sport Witness, there is a sense in Brazil that Arsenal will be the 19-year-old defender’s next club, with the Gunners having monitored him over recent times. Though, it’s unclear when they move would be at this stage.
Zinchenko twist
Real Betis are now said to be interested in a move to sign Arsenal wantaway Oleksandr Zinchenko. According to CaughtOffside. Betis now see the Ukrainian full-back as a potential target after missing out on another of their defensive targets.
Fenerbahce have been heavily linked with Zinchenko this week, but the defender could prefer a move to La Liga to link up with Manuel Pellegrini. Arsenal are not likely to stand in the way of a deal as long as it is a permanent transfer, with the Gunners now needing to raise money to balance their spending.
Gyokeres vs Sesko debate
There has been plenty of debate this week about whether Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko is the better signing with Arsenal having signed the former and United the latter.
Speaking on TNT Sports, Joe Cole weighed in, saying: “It's exciting for Arsenal fans, it really is. You look at Gyokeres, he's similar to Sesko in the fact he can run, he drives, he's powerful. The question mark will be he's 27 years of age and he's not scored a goal in the top five European leagues of football.
"He has to come come and start strong and show people he can finish. He's got a talent. I'd take him, Gyokeres [out of him and Sesko]. I do [think he's the better signing], I think he's the one that excites you most. I think Arsenal will kick on this year with him and I think he'll be good.”
Peter Crouch replied: “I'd take Sesko over him personally.”
Speaking about the signing of Gyokeres during his pre-match press conference, Arteta said: “I can just talk about Viktor and how happy we are to have him. I think he's going to have a tremendous impact on the team. The adaptation has been very, very good and we're really happy to have him.”
