Los Angeles Lakers fans had their hearts drop Saturday afternoon when superstar Luka Doncic, who recently signed a three-year extension with the team, left Slovenia’s exhibition game against Latvia at EuroBasket 2025 after tweaking his leg.
Doncic was able to walk to the locker room under his own power but was favoring his right leg after a teammate accidentally bumped into him aggressively in the third quarter, causing him to fall to the floor in visible pain.
Fortunately, Lakers fans received a relieving update shortly afterward. Dan Woike of The Athletic reported that Doncic has avoided any serious injury—huge news with the NBA season just over 60 days away.

Luka Doncic is now viewed as the face of the Los Angeles Lakers franchise, and this offseason he has prioritized getting into better shape both on and off the court—a topic he has faced heavy scrutiny for since entering the NBA in 2018.
Despite the criticism, he has remained one of the best players in the world. This summer, he chose to compete with the Slovenian National Team, arriving in early August, just days after signing his extension with the Lakers.

The new deal locks him in for the next three seasons, with a player option in 2028, giving him the potential to negotiate another long-term contract before turning 30.
Doncic was initially traded to the Lakers in one of the most shocking moves in NBA history, coming off a season in which he led the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Finals. He was traded in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and draft compensation.
In his time with Los Angeles so far, he has averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game.
