Newcastle United dressing room verdict on Alexander Isak delivered and new arrival finalised

Newcastle United left Villa Park with their pride intact and the squad are ready to move on from Alexander Isak

Newcastle United will finalise a deal for Jacob Ramsey today but Eddie Howe is still hopeful of adding another signing to his squad in time for next Monday's clash with Liverpool.

Ramsey's deal to St James' Park is all but done subject to announcement with Howe tied up with first-team affairs at Villa Park yesterday knowing the left-sided player could not have starred in the second city clash.

But he could be ready to face the Reds next week and Howe, speaking after the 0-0 draw with Aston Villa, said: "He'll offer a lot more strength in depth in that midfield area, having lost Sean and then Joe Willock to injury.

"That's an area that we've been concerned about through the second half of pre-season.

"Certainly, with the amount of games we have this season, we know that's not a number we can carry forward. We need more depth and he's an outstanding player."

Both sets of fans agree on one thing during rare moment of solidarity between United and Villa

With Villa struggling to make new signings this summer and Newcastle going into the current window on the back of three barren trading periods, there were plenty of protests to the Premier League leaders on Saturday lunchtime.

The verdict was clear and simple as Newcastle and Villa supporters sang in unison against the PSR rulebook.

Bearing in mind the rivalry has got nasty between the two fanbases, with relegation in 2009 and 2016 at this venue still a sore point for the black and whites, it was quite something to hear the fans join forces.

Various rounds of: "Premier League, corrupt as f**k" and "F**k PSR" erupted around the ground during the stalemate.

Villa boss Unai Emery also called for a "review" of the PSR rules in his programme notes before the game.

Dan Burn's colossal performance speaks volumes

The warrior from Blyth was an absolute giant at Villa Park as he slid into tackles and whacked away clearances like his life depended on it.

The 6ft 7in England man also insisted that the Isak situation has made the group "tighter than ever" hinting that the dressing room are ready to move on from the Sweden star.

A decision is expected this week on what happens next but Burn said: “I think there's obviously a lot of external noise. We've got quite a tight-knit group, and we just get on with it.

“I think we've now been about four or five weeks without Alex [Isak], so for us, he's obviously not involved at the moment.

“But we've got players who need to step up and contribute to the goals and we're ready to go.”
