Liverpool have finally reached the conclusion of what has been a frantic week. The Reds kicked off their 2025/26 campaign in spectacular fashion on Friday night with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Bournemouth.

New signing Hugo Ekitike found the net first, before Cody Gakpo doubled the advantage. Antoine Semenyo dragged Bournemouth back into contention with a brace in the second half, after he was allegedly racially abused by a Liverpool supporter.

However, strikes from Federico Chiesa - who has been touted for a departure from Anfield - and Mohamed Salah secured the ideal beginning for Liverpool. With eight days until their next fixture, focus can now shift back to transfers.

The Reds' most recent summer recruit was Giovanni Leoni, who sealed a £26m move from Parma. And Liverpool may not be finished yet, with Alexander Isak remaining subject to speculation regarding a substantial transfer to Anfield.

Here, the Daily Star Sport looks at the latest Liverpool transfer news.

Eddie Howe has disclosed that he hasn't completely abandoned hope of persuading Alexander Isak to remain at Newcastle. Speaking before Saturday's Premier League curtain-raiser against Aston Villa, he commented: "Yes, I believe there is [a way back for Isak].

"But, of course, discussions and talks would need to take place for that to happen. But, again, that's for another day.

"Today is Aston Villa and making sure we perform as well as we can. I understand why your questions are filled with that subject but it doesn't really help us at this moment."

Real Madrid have reportedly entered the race to sign Alexander Isak, as per Richard Keys. Speaking on beIN Sport, the presenter suggested that Liverpool had submitted a fresh bid but now face stiff competition.

"I heard today that Liverpool have made a bid of £110m. A second offer of £80m now and £60m next season. Take your pick," Keys stated, before adding: "But I've also heard that Real Madrid might be in the frame."

Alexander Isak was notably absent from Newcastle's squad against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Slot has dropped a hint that Chiesa could remain with Liverpool following his decisive goal against Bournemouth. Post-match, Slot commented: "As long as he is here it is definitely at Liverpool and I have no reason to believe it is going to change.

"He struggled last season to regain his fitness and unfortunately for him, he then missed the Asian tour and Joe Gomez the same. We lost Conor Bradley in the end so all my substitutions were related to players who couldn't go 90 minutes.

"At 2-2 you need a number nine. I brought him in and he delivered and that is always positive for your future at the club. The fans sung for him so many times last season and it is very nice for him to give them something in return."
