Graham Potter could eject multiple players from West Ham after the defeat to Sunderland.

There is no getting away from how poor the performance was in the 3-0 loss against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday (16 August).

In terms of positivity, besides El Hadji Malick Diouf on his West Ham debut, there was very little to speak of for Graham Potter’s side.

As a result, the English head coach could look to be cutthroat in the final weeks of the summer transfer window by moving on a number of star names from the London Stadium.

Potter to green light West Ham triple sale

There is plenty of doom and gloom surrounding the claret and blue outfit right now, especially after some worrying post-match comments from West Ham star Jarrod Bowen.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

This truly hasn’t helped to allow fans to focus on their first home clash of the season against Chelsea, coming up just six days after the defeat in the north east.

Given that Potter is seemingly already under pressure at West Ham, he now needs to do all he can to change the tide in E20.

The way to do that may prove to be in the transfer market, after what has been a largely quiet window with just four signings to this point.

West Ham summer signings so far:

Callum Wilson

El Hadji Malick Diouf

Kyle Walker-Peters

Mads Hermansen

In order to push further additions over the line, the Sunday Mirror has reported (17 August, page 70) that Potter is willing to move on Edson Alvarez, Guido Rodriguez and Andy Irving for the right fee.

There are already advanced talks in Saudi Arabia for Rodriguez’s departure, while Ajax have shown an interest in a reunion with the Mexico international.

These exits could ultimately open the door to agreeing a deal with Southampton for Matheus Fernandes, after an initial £30million bid was turned down.

Rodriguez to make way for Fernandes signing

Against Sunderland, there was a horrific lack of pace, dynamism and desire in the midfield, something which Regis Le Bris’ side took advantage of.

This could be seen a mile away by supporters, with James Ward-Prowse once again failing to impose himself in claret and blue.

With that being said, it was the performance of Rodriguez against Sunderland which caught the eye for all the wrong reasons once again.

If the Irons can find a way to get rid of the Argentine and instead bring Fernandes in from Southampton, it could represent a spark of life into the Hammers’ season after just one matchday.
