The latest transfer news from Manchester City and Manchester United with the 2025-26 Premier League campaign underway
Manchester City kicked off their 2025-26 Premier League campaign with a bang as they won 4-0 at Wolves on Saturday night.
It was an impressive performance from Pep Guardiola’s men, who scored twice in each half. Erling Haaland opened the scoring after 34 minutes with new signing Tijani Reijnders adding a second just three minutes later.
Haaland scored his second of the evening just after the hour with Rayan Cherki scoring on his Premier League debut around 10 minutes from time.
On Saturday evening, City confirmed the exit of James McAtee as he joined Nottingham Forest on a permanent deal. He joined City at Under-11 level and progressed through the youth ranks before making his senior debut in September 2021.
He played 27 times and scored seven goals for the club last campaign but has opted to move on for more regular football.
Ederson in advanced talks over Man City exit
The game against Wolves also saw a competitive debut for James Trafford following his move from Burnley.
He was named in the starting line-up, with Ederson completely out of the squad as he looks to complete a move away from the club.
Giving an update, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said: “Éderson doesn’t play today as Man City are in advanced talks with Galatasaray. Éderson wants the move and Gala sent €10m official bid to Manchester City… asking for higher fee. Negotiations are progressing.”
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said City are seeking closer to £20m for Ederson. And added: “Manchester City are prepared to go for Gianluigi Donnarumma. If Ederson leaves, Donnarumma will be the man for Manchester City. The agreement on personal terms is not a problem.”
Ederson joined City back in 2017 and has been a constant under Guardiola but now appears to have played his final game for the club.
Speaking on City’s squad, Guardiola admitted it did need to be trimmed further. The Spaniard said: “It's not healthy to have too many players. You can't create a good vibe.”
Fabrizio Romano gives Carlos Baleba update
He said: “I want to tell you one thing, Manchester United will keep Carlos Baleba on their list, Manchester United will maintain that name in their internal conversations, so if it's not going to happen this summer, Man United will still consider Baleba a target for 2026. I can guarantee that.
“Manchester United love the player, Manchester United really appreciated how the player was keen on the move, even in a difficult moment for Man United.
“It was a difficult season last one, really poor in Premier League, not qualifying for European football, so a really difficult moment, but Baleba was very keen, Man United appreciate that, Amorim is a big fan of the player.”
