Harrison Armstrong’s Everton future could be about to become clear in the final few weeks of the transfer window.

The midfielder caught the eye during a loan stint in the Championship with Derby County in the second half of last season, where he became a central part of their fight to stay in the second tier.

Armstrong has looked bright for Everton in pre-season, and he turned in several promising performances that have further outlined why he is considered as one of the brightest young talents at the club.

David Moyes’ side are lacking depth in their squad at the moment, and the boss is set to face a big decision regarding the youngster in the next few weeks as the transfer deadline looms.

Preston want Armstrong on loan

Everton have received plenty of interest in Armstrong over the summer, with Championship sides queuing up to try and secure his signature for this season.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Derby have been among the group of clubs who are keen to bring the midfielder in, and they would likely hand him a key role in the middle of the park once again.

However, it now looks as though Moyes in going to have a difficult decision on his hands, with his old club Preston North End having now joined the race, according to Alan Nixon via his Patreon.

The Lancashire outfit are hoping for a favour from their former boss, although Derby remain keen to strike a renewed deal with the Toffees.

It also isn’t out of the question that Armstrong could remain at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the foreseeable future, with Moyes seemingly facing a late decision as to what will provide the best fit for the starlet.

Everton should send Armstrong back to Derby

Everton are now linked with Yves Bissouma as they continue to make an effort to bolster their ranks at the base of the midfield, and with that in mind, there is surely a straightforward call to be made on Armstrong.

The 18-year-old needs to be starting games on a regular basis, and he won’t get that at his parent club given the Toffees’ lofty aspirations for this term.

Armstrong proved that he could handle a high-pressure scenario in senior football, and a move back to Pride Park could be ideal

Instead, a loan move back to Derby should tick all the boxes for both Everton and the player.

A return to the East Midlands outfit would see Armstrong receive plenty of minutes, continue to play at a strong and competitive level of football, and also work with one of the EFL’s most promising managers in John Eustace.

It will surely be tempting for Moyes to lend a hand to his old club, but the best case scenario for Armstrong would surely be to return to familiar surroundings and aim to pick up where he left off.
