Manchester United need to sell players before the September 1 transfer deadline in order to balance the books

Manchester United have several players they want to offload before the September 1 transfer deadline and the Red Devils are said to be ready to accept an offer from AS Roma for Jadon Sancho.

The former Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund man is one of several players free to leave Old Trafford this summer. United have earned £5m this window after Chelsea had to pay a financial penalty for going back on their obligation to buy the winger.

The Blues were open to a permanent deal but an agreement could not be reached on personal terms due to the player’s high wage demands. He has also been linked with Juventus this summer but that potential move has gone quiet.

However, both clubs are waiting for the green light from Sancho as he has not given his approval of the deal. Sancho is just one player the Red Devils are keen to sell this summer, with Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Rasmus Hojlund all linked with exits.

United need to raise funds to help balance the books after spending £200m on Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko. They also want to add a new midfielder and goalkeeper.

Fabrizio Romano gives update on Jadon Sancho exit

“For Jadon Sancho, many questions from the fans of Roma,” Romano said.

“Let's say that to explain the matter a bit, Manchester United, and I can confirm it 100%, is ready to accept the offer from Roma.

“It is an offer that, as I said, touches €23million, between loan and obligation to buy.

“United wants to do it quickly, also because with that money they will be able to make some money after spending a lot between Mbeumo, Cunha and Sesko.

“But also to try to put part of that money on other roles, maybe a goalkeeper, especially a midfielder. This is the priority of the United.

“So selling Sancho, but also freeing himself from his commitment is not only the part of the transfer, it is also something important.”

Man Utd and Roma ready to proceed as Sancho approval needed

Romano continued: “United is ready, now everything is up to the player. The agents of the player are in contact with Roma. They are waiting for a definitive answer from Jadon Sancho, who is getting information on everything before making an important choice for his future.

“Since in this case, being a loan with obligation, it would be practically a definitive transfer, as the obligation (to buy) is very simple.

“And so we are waiting for a response from Sancho, who gave an opening in the past few days to talk to Roma, but from whom we need to get a definitive ok on the figures, on the project, on everything that concerns the Roma world. So work in progress to wait for Sancho's ok, as I said.”
