Leeds United have been linked with Stuttgart striker Ermedin Demirovic as they aim to solve their problems at centre-forward.

Demirovic is reportedly available for a price of around £35 million, but with Leeds desperate for a striker, they could aim to sign the 27-year-old.

Leeds have signed Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but many are sceptical over whether he is at the right level to succeed for the Whites.

A centre-forward could help Leeds remain in the Premier League, and Demirovic could be the perfect solution upfront for Daniel Farke.

Demirovic unlikely to push for Stuttgart exit

Demirovic’s links to Leeds come after he fell down the pecking order at Stuttgart in the second half of last season, and this could have prompted him to push for a move.

However, speaking in March, Demirovic claimed that he is not interested in finding a new club just a year after he joined Stuttgart from Augsburg.

“I want to assert myself. I didn’t come here to leave immediately after the first difficult phase and look for a new club,” he stated.

Demirovic’s Bundesliga record

“Of course I can’t be satisfied. But I always try to give my best. I try to fight my way into the team to get more playing time.

Demirovic fell behind Deniz Undav and Nick Woltemade in the pecking order, but still scored regularly.

“A lot was expected of me at the start. I’ve scored nine goals now and I don’t think that’s too bad. I’m trying to give my all and I’m convinced I can score enough goals and be good for VfB.”

Demirovic scored 15 goals in 20 Bundesliga starts last season, and could be the ideal physical goalscorer to keep Leeds in the Premier League, but Farke may now have to look elsewhere.

Can Leeds stay up without a striker?

Farke’s two main options at centre-forward are currently Calvert-Lewin and Joel Piroe, and there are major doubts over whether both can lead the line in the Premier League.

The Whites have done well to strengthen their back-line, with Farke adding height and power to the Leeds defence with Jaka Bijol, Sebaastian Bornauw and Gabriel Gudmundsson.

The improved defence could be crucial in keeping Leeds up, but they may need more goals upfront to beat the drop.

All three promoted sides have been relegated immediately in the last two seasons, and it is clear that the Premier League is now a level above the Championship, with goals harder to score for the likes of Piroe and Dan James.
