Pittsburgh Steelers get positive update on fan favorite player after injury

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers received a positive update on long snapper Christian Kuntz, head coach Mike Tomlin said.

“Christian Kuntz had a chest injury that’s being evaluated," Tomlin said. “I’m not gonna do hypotheticals on Christian. I think we got some good news there.”

Kuntz made a tackle on a punt return, laying out to make the play. After that, he came off the field grabbing his chest and was attended to by trainers. The Steelers took his shoulder pads and helmet and he went to the locker room.

It is unknown how serious Kuntz’s injury is, but he was the second Steelers player to leave the game and be ruled out. Outside linebacker Nick Herbig went down with an injury, too.

Defensive lineman Logan Lee stepped in for the rest of the game, and Tomlin was appreciative of his efforts. Lee first started long snapping in high school, and has practiced that skill every day at training camp.

“I grew up in a town of 1900, so I played every special teams, offense and defense. So it was just - we needed bodies, so I was a snapper,“ Lee said.

The Steelers will likely sign a long snapper if Kuntz can not practice with the injury. A Duquesne University graduate, Kuntz played outside linebacker before switching to long snapper in the NFL. A Pittsburgh native, he played at Chartiers Valley High School.
