Manchester United vs Arsenal LIVE early team news plus how to watch and kick off time

United play Arsenal today

Manchester United's Premier League campaign begins today as they face Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim's side will be looking to put their miserable 2024/25 campaign behind them by starting with a win against the Gunners. Despite last season's struggles, there's optimism in the air at Old Trafford after an uplifting summer for the club. are unbeaten in pre-season and have made some quality additions to their squad.

There will be plenty of competitive debuts to watch out for today, with Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko all in line to play this afternoon.

In terms of the other team news, United will be without and Noussair Mazraoui, but Andre Onana and Joshua Zirkzee could both return.

We'll bring you live build-up, updates and reaction in the blog below

United should be aiming to qualify for the Champions League this season. They have invested more than £200million to improve their attack, they have kept their best player, their central defence is settled, they will have ample rest between games and many clubs that finished above United last season have stood still. Looking at Villa’s XI yesterday is not cause for dread if you are of a United persuasion. Newcastle could end the window weaker, too.

Clubs have gone from 10th and 15th one season to winning the league the next season in the past ten years. I cannot see United challenging for the title but, given fifth should secure Champions League qualification, that has to be a realistic aim. There are not five teams that are clearly and obviously better off than United.

It’s understandable that United are settling on the target of qualifying for Europe. That could be through a number of routes and it is probably wise not to specify which competition.

European football has left an indelible mark on United. The Munich clock, the Munich tunnel and the Munich memorial plaques are evidence of that. Playing in Europe has heavily defined United. Their worldwide popularity Is related to the Munich air disaster in 1958 and the remarkable recovery that culminated in their maiden European Cup victory at Wembley ten years later. That history has to elicit a response from this squad after the anaemic performance in Bilbao nearly three months ago.
