The first Premier League game of the season at Molineux took a back seat to an emotional and heartfelt series of tributes to the former Wolves forward, who died alongside his brother Andre Silva in a car crash in Spain at the start of July.
A sold-out Molineux paid tribute to Jota, who spent three years at Wolves, winning the Championship and helping take the club to the FA Semi Finals and Europa League Quarter finals, as well as two successive seventh place finishes.
His parents Isabel and Joaquim Silva were present at Molineux, as was his widow Rute Cardoso, who was joined at the game against Manchester City by former Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.
As well as the unveiling of an enormous Tifo in front of the Sir Jack Hayward Stand, which bore the line "We'll remember you when you walk in fields of gold", a nod to Diogo Jota's favourite song, other tributes were paid.
These included the unveiling of a massive mural on the side of the Leaping Wolf pub and a moment when Wolves forward Sasa Kalajdzic laid a Number 18 shirt on the pitch in Jota's honour.
