Tottenham vs Burnley: Burnley post-match player ratings

In what many expected to be a difficult outing to North London was there any players that can hold their heads high in the Burnley team with their individual efforts.

Burnley fell to a three goals to nil loss at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.

With the opening goal coming from Richarlison with a composed half-volley in the 10th minute of the game from a Mohammed Kudus cross.

The second goal of the game didn't come until the 60th minute. Once again Richarlison being the scorer this time with a spectacular scissor kick from another Mohammed Kudus cross.

The third and final goal of the game came shortly after in the 66th minute through Brennan Johnson who coolly slotted the ball past Burnley debutant Martin Dubravka in goal.

Burnley had moments to equalise with the game poised on the line at one goal to nil through Hannibal and Jaidon Anthony, respectively.

Burnley player ratings

Martin Dubravka - 6

Despite conceding three goals on debut for the Clarets. The Slovakian goalkeeper did not do much wrong from an individual standpoint. With him making impressive saves to keep the scoreline at a respectable level. However, his distribution was left to be desired with many of his passes failing to find a player in a Burnley shirt.

Oliver Sonne - 4

The Peruvian wing back had a difficult time on Premier League debut. With him often being stuck between two minds on whether to help press further up the field or to hold back with the winger he was defending, in this case it was Brennan Johnson. Which often left the Welsh man in free space under no real pressure from Sonne.

Kyle Walker - 6

Showed his quality whenever he was on the ball being one of the few players to show a level of composure that the squad needs. Made some mistakes defensively when being too aggressive in trying to win the ball allowing for opposition players to play acute touches past him towards teammates. But overall did not make many costly mistakes.

Hjalmar Ekdal - 5

Made a mistake for the opening Richarlison goal allowing the Brazilian forward to peel off him to get a clean volley off on goal. And often found himself pressing higher up the pitch than was necessary from him causing for holes in the defensive line that Tottenham exploited. Ekdal had some good moments with his blocks and clearances but ultimately was at fault for the goals Burnley conceded.

Maxime Esteve - 6

The French man continues to be solid in defence for the Clarets. Despite a poor attempt at finding a teammate with a clearance which led to Tottenham recovering the ball and ultimately opening the scoring. He later settled into the game and showed why he receives such high praise from Burnley fans. With his reading of the game stopping many Tottenham attacks and his willingness to put his body on the line stopping Spurs from scoring more than the three goals that they did score.

Quilindschy Hartman - 6

The Dutch man had an intense battle with Mohammed Kudus on his debut for the Clarets, which is an enviable task at hand for any defender in the Premier League. Despite not coming out on top in this particular battle he didn't shy away from it and showed his defensive capabilities as well as supporting the attack in his overlapping runs for Jaidon Anthony down the left flank.

**Josh Laurent**- 4

A poor display for the English man on his Premier League debut as he looked a step off the pace for Premier League football often being a step behind the flow of the game. Often being caught out in possession which put his team on the back foot during the game especially when he was being dispossessed in his defensive third.

Josh Cullen - 6

Cullen led with example showing the effort levels required with his constant pressing and his good display on the ball. Being one of Burnley's better players with the ball at feet rarely playing a loose pass and often being the one to create attacking chances.

Hannibal - 5

Hannibal failed to pick up where he left off from his positive displays at the end of the Championship campaign. With the Tunisian midfielder being off the pace in the opening game of the season squandering chances that he wouldn't have squandered in full confidence of his game. He did have positive moments in the game with his effectiveness at winning the ball back for his side.

Jaidon Anthony - 6

The English wide man continues to impress with his energy and work rate for Scott Parker's side. Often being the attacker in the best positions alongside Lyle Foster despite not capitalising on the chances he was on the end of. He showed positive signs for the future with the positions he was picking up in the attacking third.

Lyle Foster - 7

Arguably the man of the match for Scott Parker's men. Causing plenty of headaches for Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven particularly during the first 45 minutes. With his constant runs behind the defence and hold up play to bring teammates into play when in possession being a bright spark for Burnley when they found their footing in the match.

Subs

Jacob Bruun Larsen - 6

Coming on in the 63rd minute as a replacement for Hannibal. The Danish forward showed attacking intent that the team was lacking despite coming on with the score being two goals to nil in favour of Tottenham. Gaining valuable minutes for his fitness he's put food for thought inside Scott Parker's mind as to whether he's worthy of a starting position going forward.

Lesley Ugochukwu - 6

Coming on in the 63rd minute as a replacement for Josh Laurent. He showed the quality on the ball that was missing with Laurent on the pitch as he was immediately involved in a good passage of play with Foster that saw the French midfielder see an effort go narrowly over the crossbar. The 30 minute cameo proved that he deserves a starting position going forward if Burnley want to have a foothold in matches from the opening whistle.

Loum Tchaouna - 6

The young French winger was substituted on in the 74th minute for Oliver Sonne. With the score at three - nil it was a difficult position for him to impact the match but he showed good energy and willingness to get forward when possible.

Zian Flemming - 6

Also being substituted on in the 74th minute for Lyle Foster. The Dutch attacker also wasn't in a position where he had much chance to impact the game.

Marcus Edwards - N/A

Edwards was substituted on in the 85th minute for Jaidon Anthony. Only receiving a 5 minute cameo in the match that was already won for Tottenham not allowing him to find his rhythm in the match or have an impact on the result.
