Nordi Mukiele has joined Sunderland on a four-year deal from PSG.

Nordi Mukiele believes that Sunderland can do something special this season, after the Black Cats confirmed his arrival from PSG. The versatile defender, who can play at centre-half or at right-back, becomes the 12th signing of the summer.

According to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, Sunderland have agreed a fee worth £9.5million - plus £2.5m in add-ons - for the French international, who has signed a four-year deal with Regis Le Bris side.

The 27-year-old was at the Stadium of Light yesterday as Sunderland defeated West Ham United 3-0 in their first Premier League fixture in eight years.

After signing on Wearside, he said: "It's a new challenge and I'm happy to be here. I saw the atmosphere of the stadium, and this is something I really like. The fans are very important in football, and especially in Sunderland.

"I came here to fight for them. I see some good players and see their quality, so I believe we can do something good together - and when I say together, I mean the players, the fans and the city. We will need everyone this season."

The club's sporting director, Kristjaan Speakman, added: "Nordi possesses rare athletic qualities that are perfectly suited to our team in the Premier League. In addition, he has tactical versatility as a right back and centre back, so for these reasons, we felt it was an acquisition we needed to make to enhance our group.

"He's had a variety of experiences in Europe, including in the Champions League, and now he's motivated to show his ability for Sunderland AFC in the Premier League. We're delighted to complete this deal."

Mukiele spent time at Montpellier and RB Leipzig, earlier in his career, impressing in the Bundesliga before then linking up with PSG in 2022. He won back-to-back Ligue 1 titles in 2023 and 2024, the 2024 Coupe de France and two Trophée des Champions - before then linking up with Granit Xhaka at Bayer Leverkusen last summer.

The French defender made 24 appearances in all competitions last season, and he will add more experience to Sunderland's backline having competed in the Champions League with Leverkusen. Mukiele will wear the No.20 shirt at the Stadium of Light this season.
