Report: With Nick Woltemade off the board, Christopher Nkunku is Bayern Munich’s number one…

Bayern Munich’s summer transfer window has been characterized by prolonged and disappointing transfer negotiations with high priority targets. After Florian Wirtz and Nico Williams, Nick Woltemade became the latest tragedy as Stuttgart’s bosses have officially decided to keep the German attacker for the 2025/26 campaign.

According to Fabrizio Romano (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern’s management team will immediately pivot to the next attacker on the transfer board.

After the Nick Woltemade deal collapsed, Bayern are now going strong on Christopher Nkunku and will advance for the Frenchman. Contact with Chelsea has been ongoing every day for the past 4-5 days. Not a done deal yet, but negotiations are advancing. Nkunku wants the move.

After scoring double digit goals in back-to-back seasons at Red Bull Leipzig and being name dthe 2021/22 Bundesliga Player of the Season, Nkunku’s tenure at Chelsea FC has been less desirable. After two seasons in London, Nkunku only has six goals in 38 appearances and 11 starts. Chelsea are looking to recoup at least half of the €60M fee that was paid two years ago.

If Vincent Kompany can breathe life back into Nkunku’s career, this could be a valuable addition. However, Nkunku’s critics believe that he is past his prime and will become another overpaid, unsellable, and aging attacker.
