Leeds United manager Daniel Farke declared that his side "belong in the Premier League" ahead of their opening clash with Everton.
The German was speaking to the media in his pre-match press conference, as he bids to guide his side to become the first newly promoted team in three seasons to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.
"We have to do everything possible to make a fortress out of Elland Road"
Leeds have received a plethora of praise for their home support in recent seasons, as Elland Road has become a challenging place for visiting clubs to go.
Indeed, Leeds won 18 of their home clashes last season, only losing once across the whole campaign.
Such imperious form played a crucial role in guiding them to Premier League promotion, and Farke was well aware of the significance of carrying that form forward into the new season.
"We made it our fortress at Championship level. We know it will be difficult to win as many games at this level, but we have to do everything possible to make a fortress out of Elland Road again."
"Our mindset in each and every game is going to be why we all started football: to win every game. You weren't thinking about the table, money, contracts or survival. You just wanted to go out, play football and be the better side."
"This club belongs to the Premier League. Everyone is speaking about our potential, calling us a 'sleeping giant'. I think that's true, but if we're being really honest, the club has spent just three years in the top flight over the past 23 years."
Everton to be a difficult test
Although there are no easy games in the Premier League, Daniel Farke was keen to highlight that Everton will be particularly stern opposition for Leeds as they make their Premier League return.
The Toffees finished 13th in the top flight last season after experiencing a revival following the return of David Moyes to Goodison Park, and they will be hoping to build from that form into the start of the new campaign.
Further, with new signings Thierno Barry, Kieran Dewsbury-Hall and Jack Grealish all added to their side, Farke warned that this match will be a tough challenge for his team.
"They are a really good side and we are respectful of that. We know how difficult it will be to create chances and open them up. We know that from last season. They have also made some ambitious signings this summer."
Thrilled to have Calvert-Lewin at the club
Dominic Calvert-Lewin signed for Leeds United earlier in the week, having departed Everton upon the expiry of his contract.
Newly-promoted teams often struggle to score goals upon promotion, but Farke felt that Calvert-Lewin may be the striker that Leeds need to help them in their battle to avoid the drop.
"We are all delighted. As a newly-promoted side, we want to sign players that have already delivered at the top level but are still at a good age and on the way up in their career. These boxes are all ticked."
Dan James was a talisman for Leeds in the Championship last season. He contributed 12 goals and nine assists to help his side secure the league title, while his blistering pace was vital to breaching stubborn defences.
Having signed a new contract four year contract with the club on Thursday, James will be hoping to use his form from last term and Premier League experience to help the side to survive this time around.
In an interview given to BBC Radio Leeds, he talked about how his team feels and their ambitions ahead of the upcoming season.
"It's massive because it's the best league in the world. The money spent in the Premier League is unbelievable, and the competition is only getting better every year.
"You look at the past two seasons and the same teams that have gone up have come down. We've just got to believe in ourselves going into every game because it's going be tough.
"We've got the past two years of that unity we have as a team and we must take it into the Premier League.
"It is going to be tough and it's going to be be a challenge, but it's one we're all excited for.
"We want to establish ourselves as a Premier League team.
"I want to contribute to the team as much as I can. I like to hold myself accountable, rather than other people doing it."
