Mateo Joseph has refused to rule out playing for Leeds United again
Mateo Joseph’s departure from Leeds this summer came under heated circumstances, with the club publicly agitating for a transfer away from Elland Road.
The Spaniard submitted a transfer request and refused to return for pre-season training. Farke made it clear that he would not be part of his plans following the striker’s action.
Leeds were adamant about not accepting any loan offers with buy options and were only interested in loaning him for a season.
The club got their wish and Mallorca signed him on loan for the 2025/26 campaign, but the manner of his departure has raised doubts about his long-term future at Leeds.
However, Joseph has not ruled out playing for Leeds if the circumstances change in the future following his loan spell at Mallorca.
“I’m one of those people who say never say never”, Joseph told The Athletic.
“Football takes many twists and turns. If circumstances change, anything is possible. But right now, my mind isn’t there, it’s here.”
Joseph is still rated at Leeds
Leeds were adamant about not accepting any offers to sell him because the club are convinced that Joseph is a talented young striker with a high ceiling.
Chairman Paraag Marathe remains an admirer of the forward, and there is a real belief inside the club that the Spaniard is an asset worth investing in.
Through the loan move to Mallorca, Leeds have bought a season’s time and have pushed a decision on Joseph by one more year.
The club hope that a fruitful loan spell at Mallorca will increase the striker’s value before he returns to the club next summer.
Farke has been open to reintegrating players such as Brenden Aaronson and Jack Harrison, and could change his mind about Joseph next year.
