Goncalo Ramos has been linked for a move to Newcastle United, potentially bringing an end to the ongoing transfer drama surrounding Alexander Isak.

The Swedish striker has reportedly vowed never to play for the Magpies again, irrespective of whether he manages to secure a transfer away from Tyneside before the window closes. Liverpool are currently the only likely suitors for the 25-year-old, but have yet to resume negotiations with Newcastle after their initial offer of £110million plus add-ons was turned down.

With less than a fortnight left until the summer transfer window slams shut, all parties involved will be keen to resolve the situation swiftly. In light of Isak's absence, Anthony Gordon was utilised as a makeshift forward during Newcastle's goalless draw against a 10-man Aston Villa in their Premier League opener on Saturday.

And with no established No. 9 available for their match against Liverpool next Monday, manager Eddie Howe will be keen to bring in a new striker before then. Newcastle have been quoted a price of £40m for Brentford's Yoane Wissa, who netted 19 times in 35 appearances for the Bees last season.

Given that the 28-year-old appears to favour a move to St James' Park, it may only be a matter of time before a deal is struck between the two clubs. However, it's former Manchester United and Liverpool target, Ramos, who Newcastle have recently been linked with and could prove to be a game-changer in finding a new club for Isak in the coming weeks.

The 24-year-old has made quite an impression at Paris Saint-Germain since joining the Ligue 1 heavyweights in 2023. He's netted 34 goals across all competitions so far.

The Red Devils were reportedly in discussions with PSG about bringing the centre-forward to Old Trafford this summer before they opted for Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo instead. Meanwhile, it's rumoured that Liverpool are currently evaluating whether Ramos would be a good fit at Anfield if they fail to secure Isak.

It wouldn't be the first time that the Reds have swooped in on one of Newcastle's targets this summer, having outmanoeuvred the Magpies in the race for Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike, securing his services in a £79m deal. However, stepping back from Ramos to allow Newcastle to sign him could work in Liverpool's favour in their quest for Isak.

With both Wissa and Ramos potentially in their squad, Newcastle might be willing to budge a bit on their firm £150m valuation of Isak. This could pave the way for the Reds to strike a deal and take him off their hands.

The Magpies, however, face a challenging task, having struggled to attract top-notch talent in the current transfer window. Newcastle not only missed out on Ekitike, Mbeumo and Sesko, but also saw Liam Delap and Joao Pedro opt for Chelsea, Dean Huijsen join Real Madrid, and James Trafford return to Manchester City from Burnley instead of making their way to St. James' Park.

Meanwhile, it's believed that Ramos is content in Paris and isn't particularly eager to make a move to the Premier League, despite the interest. With his expected weekly wages reported to be around £200,000 and a current valuation of approximately £68m, it could end up being another futile pursuit for Newcastle.
